For the most part, in Part I and Part II, we concentrated on indoor spaces. Now we want to take a look at some outdoor features for you to consider in your new home build.
Extended Garage
Personally, I love the idea of having a garage with one more space than the number of cars you own. That extra space will get used, trust me. It can be used for a workshop, storage, a boat, or a host of other things. How about a play area for the kids on rainy days? The possibilities are endless with that extra space.
Outdoor Dining Area
This is quite possibly my favorite add-on for a home. After a long, cold winter, we all get a little rammy and want to spend more time outdoors. The perfect way to ensure that happens is by creating an outdoor dining area for your home. If you have the space, you can create both a kitchen and a separate living space, giving you even more possibilities. By installing fire pits, you may be able to get up to 10 months out of the space even in some of the colder areas around the country.
Garden Area with Water Features
If you have an outdoor space, it is likely that you are also going to have a garden. If you have that space, you can add a water feature. Now, I know you think this can get expensive, but there are ways to create water features for very little money. Or, you can have it professionally done and spend big bucks. Regardless, this is a great effect and has a calmness about it that you just may find your own backyard is your favorite “happy” place to go to when you need a minute.
Outdoor Entertainment Area
If you have an outdoor living space, why not expand it to include some outdoor entertainment? Consider adding a bar, an outdoor pool table, cornhole (baggo) pit, or a pool. These areas tend to be more popular in areas that do not have a true winter, such as the southern and southwestern states, but you can still have them in a colder area. Build the entertainment area with drop-down walls that can be closed to keep the elements out during the colder months and inclement weather. You may not be able to use the entertainment areas during those months, but you can still protect them.
