This week, we are discussing some features you should consider in your new custom home, especially if you are building your forever home. Let’s keep the ideas rolling!
First-Floor Master Bedroom Suite
It really does not matter how old you are now, if you are building your forever home, this is something you need to consider. Walking up and down the steps will take a toll on you as you get older, so situating the master suite on the first floor will pay huge dividends for you in the future. In terms of design, this is also ideal if you want to keep your laundry room located on the first floor.
Dedicated Game-Theater Room
If you work this into the design of the home before it is built, it will make a huge difference. The room can be both soundproofed as well as being set up for the proper acoustics. It will be a great place for family and friends to gather with plenty of entertainment at all times, be it a pool table, full-sized video games, or maybe even a golf simulator!
Home Gym
This may not be for everyone, but investing in a home gym is a great way to make sure you actually work out. For me, having to leave the home and losing all that time traveling back and forth is a deterrent because I simply cannot afford that additional lost time. So, even a small home gym is worth the investment. A stationary bike or other cardio machines, a TV, some free weights, and a few machines and stretch bands are really all you will need, or you can go full throttle and design a home gym like Troy Aikman has in his home, which rivals that of any gym I have ever seen.
Walk-in Closets
So, there is no getting around this one if you are building a custom home. You are going to need storage space and a lot of it. Our experience is that you can never have enough closet space. The beauty of being able to design your own closets is that you can turn them into multi-purpose rooms. For instance, the closet can also serve as a dressing room and/or makeup room. The possibilities here are endless, it is just about how creative you want to get.
The Bathroom
There are several features that I believe are must-haves in a custom home:
- Oversized shower
- Soaking tub
- Plenty of storage
- Dual sinks
If you are up to making your bathroom a true luxury experience, also consider these options:
- Waterproof TV
- Sound system
- Heated towel rack
- Heated tile floors
Again, we could go on forever about the bathroom, as we are seeing more and more people creating a room that resembles a high-end spa.
We have one more day left to discuss these must-have features, so make sure you check back to see the third installment!
