In parts one and two, we covered most of the essential rooms, so today we want to concentrate on the kitchen and a few “luxury” rooms you may want to consider.
Countertops
If there is one area that you want to invest in for a special feature in the kitchen, it is going to be in high-end countertops. We are assuming you will be having beautiful stainless steel appliances, and there is no way to better set them off than with quartz or marble countertops. Add a large slab of wood for a cutting station or to make pasta, and you are really starting to dress up that kitchen.
Cabinets
So, I am going to say something that may sound a bit crazy but think about going with fewer upper cabinets, or at least make them smaller. Let me ask you a question… can you actually reach the top shelf of your current cabinets without dragging out a footstool? Most people can’t, so that space ends up getting wasted. There is the added benefit that fewer high cabinets open the rooms as well as allowing you to decorate it with artwork and other features that will really make the kitchen a bit cozier.
The Island
This has become a very popular feature, especially for smaller families that do not gather around a table for mealtime. The island can be used as a prep area as well as a dining area. It is ideal for homeowners that love to entertain.
Walk-in Pantry
For those of you that love to cook, this is a must-have feature in the home. You can store larger packages of food and even install an additional freezer if you have the space. You can also have shelf space for some of the appliances you only use from time to time, such as blenders, meat slicers, ice cream makers, etc.
Pet-friendly Space
If you are a cat owner, this is really something you want to consider. This does not even have to be a dedicated room, but simply making an existing room a bit more friendlier to the pet so they are not bored or tearing up your furniture. Cats love to climb, so perches along the walk, higher cat trees, and even a few landing spots for them to take a nap.
Heated Floors
It does not get more luxurious than this and as we get older, our feet always seem to be cold. And what could be better than heated floors during the winter?
Wine Cellar
The last indulgence we will talk about is a dedicated wine cellar. If you are a collector, this is a must-have amenity in your home. You can properly store bottles and have them on display for everyone to see without jamming up a small wine refrigerator. This room can even be used for entertaining!
That is it for now folks, but we will definitely be doing more articles like this in the future to give you ideas on what to incorporate into your custom home builds.
